Krav Maga was founded by the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF). Come and learn Krav Maga Singapore at International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) Singapore today to learn practical self-defence skills for real-life situations to defend you and your loved ones.

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art and self-defence combat system that focuses on street fighting defence. Krav Maga employs techniques from martial arts like Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiujitsu and Judo to teach both military personnel and civilians to fight effectively in real-world situations.

Krav Maga encourages students to avoid confrontation, but if this is impossible, to finish the fight as quickly as possible by attacking the most vulnerable parts of the body. Krav Maga also teaches students to develop situational awareness to quickly scan and identify escape routes or additional threats, while also using non-physical methods to de-escalate a conflict before resorting to violence.

– Imi Lichtenfeld

Imi Lichtenfeld was born in 1910 in Budapest, Hungary and was active in many sports like boxing and wrestling from a young age.

In the mid-1930s, when anti-Semitic riots threatened the Jews living in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, Lichtenfeld led a group of Jewish boxers and wrestlers to defend Jewish neighbourhoods  from anti-Semitic thugs and fascist gangs. However, Lichtenfeld realised that martial arts like boxing and wrestling were not adequately practical for the brutal nature of street fighting, and thus began to formulate his tactics and techniques for practical self-defence to eventually create Krav Maga.

Lichtenfeld eventually escaped to Israel, and started training Israel's paramilitary fighters in his Krav Maga techniques to protect Jewish refugees from Arabs. He served in the Israeli Defence Force for 20 years, refining his Krav Maga techniques with other martial arts like Muay Thai and Judo, before later starting a Krav Maga school and modifying his Krav Maga techniques to teach Krav Maga to civilians.

The founder of Krav Maga, Imi Lichtenfeld, passed away on January 9th, 1998 at the age of 88.

Singapore is generally a safe country with a low crime rate. However, crimes still do occur, ranging from robbery to assault to even murder. And for people who need to travel overseas frequently, crimes may become even more likely. At the end of the day, you are still in charge of your own safety and protecting your own life.

That is where Krav Maga Singapore comes in.

Krav Maga was designed to let total beginners learn self-defence skills and gain the confidence to survive in a street encounter through learning and drilling tried-and-tested Krav Maga techniques, all within a short span of time. Krav Maga is without a doubt the best martial art for street self-defence and survival.

Krav Maga not only teaches you the techniques to survive, but also the mindset as well. An attack can happen in a split second, and an untrained victim may blank out due to shock and be unable to think or react quickly. However, a well-trained Krav Maga practitioner will be able to adapt to any scenario quickly and act accordingly to either neutralise the threat or find an opportunity to escape.

What you do and how you act in those precious few seconds can mean the difference between life and death. Krav Maga will train you not just to fight, but to survive.

Will I be intimidated when I start training as a beginner?

New students may sometimes feel uncomfortable at the beginning of Krav Maga training, but rest assured that all our Krav Maga classes have a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and beginners are made to feel welcome. New students move at their own pace until they are confident with the basic Krav Maga techniques before advancing.

Are there belts or grading systems in Krav Maga?

A core belief of Krav Maga is that the ability to remain safe and effectively execute self-defense techniques under pressure matter far more than receiving a new color belt. However, we do recognize that aiming for a higher grade can motivate people to train harder, and therefore improve in Krav Maga. IKMF uses the level system, with Practitioner levels (P-levels), Graduate levels (G-levels) and Expert levels (E-levels).

What should I wear to Krav Maga Singapore class?

Athletic shoes with proper feet support, jogging bottoms and a T-shirt are all that is required to start Krav Maga. Eventually you will want to purchase a Krav Maga uniform, consisting of a white T-shirt and black trousers, which are available through your Krav Maga instructor.

Are the Krav Maga lessons safe?

Here at IKMF Singapore, safety is our utmost priority. All Krav Maga classes begin with a thorough warm-up. Then, depending on which Krav Maga class is being taught, we will decide what techniques to practice. Krav Maga is taught in an atmosphere as realistic as possible — and in any physical activity there is always the danger of accidents — but safety is always the main priority. Sparring in Krav Maga is closely supervised at all times.
